I love traveling to Switzerland all year round but I always find that there is something extra special to see during the winter.

I’m not sure how many months I’ve spent in Switzerland yet – but it must have been at least 18 months in the last 14 years.
Once you’ve seen the beautiful lakes, breathtaking Swiss Alps, and beautiful cities and towns, you’ll understand why. The beauty is beyond imagination.
If you are going to Switzerland soon and wondering about the best Switzerland travel tips, then this post is for you. Here are the most important things to know before traveling to Switzerland for the first time.
Let’s start with languages in Switzerland. Switzerland is a multilingual country with four official languages: German, French, Italian and Romansh.
Interlaken Switzerland Travel Tips
German is the most widely spoken language, with about 65% of the population using it as their first language. Especially in the northern, eastern and central parts of Switzerland, German is the main language. This includes areas like Interlaken, Zurich, or Bern.
French is spoken by about 18% – especially in the western and southern parts of Switzerland. This includes areas such as Geneva, Lausanne and Zermatt.
Italian is the native language of about 8% – and it is mostly spoken in southern Italy and in the cantons of Ticino (such as Lugano and Locarno) and parts of Grisons. Romansh is spoken by 0.5% – in some parts of Grayson.
English is also widely spoken, most Swiss people can speak it more or less fluently.

In addition, Switzerland has a wide range of minority languages, with more than 70 different languages spoken throughout the country.
Well, this is not the truth but just my own opinion. Swiss people are very nice. They are more reserved than other Europeans and – in general – they are not very outgoing, but they are friendly and kind; Just not so warm and welcoming.
However, you will find that they are friendlier in the Italian part, and on the contrary, more reserved in the French part (this is my impression and reflects something I have experienced in Italy and France). So, don’t worry if people talk short, that’s just how they are.
When it comes to the best time to visit Switzerland, the answer is anytime! This is the short answer. The long answer is: it depends on what you’re looking for on vacation.
Public Transportation In Switzerland: Saving Tips
Generally, the hottest and driest months are July and August, making it the perfect time for outdoor activities such as hiking and biking. However, if you want to enjoy winter activities like skiing and snowshoeing, then December to March is the best time to visit.

I recommend visiting in May, June, September and early October as prices are lower and it’s not as crowded as in popular tourist destinations like Interlaken. I’ve stopped relying on the seasons – I’ve had heavy rains in the summer months (July and August) and great weather in October. So, while the seasons give you a trend the weather is not really predictable.

The weather in Switzerland can be very pleasant. In summer, there are weeks of bad weather at a time, when it rains every day and almost all day.
You can’t depend on the weather here. But generally, July and August are the hottest months. The Italian-speaking region in the south is often warmer than the rest of the country. Winter usually starts in November and the winter season can last till April in some areas.
Whether you’re visiting Switzerland’s cities or exploring the countryside, bus, train, boat, and cable car services are available throughout the country.
The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) offers an extensive network of trains connecting cities, towns and villages in Switzerland. The Swiss Travel System offers a range of travel cards that you can use on all forms of public transport, giving you unlimited travel for your chosen time period.
Tips For Traveling Solo On Your Switzerland Holidays
In addition to train services, Switzerland also has an extensive network of buses and ferries. Most routes are directly operated by SBB, while others are operated by private companies. Bus and boat services offer a great way to explore the country’s stunning natural scenery.
Cable cars also provide an easy way to get around some areas of Switzerland. In particular, cable cars are popular in mountain areas such as Zermatt and Interlaken. Most cable car services run year-round, although some close during the winter months, or during the shoulder seasons (October/November and March/April/May).
Public transport in Switzerland is a great way to get around and explore the country’s stunning natural beauty. With reliable and affordable service available across the country, getting from one place to another has never been easier!
Train travel in Switzerland can be the most beautiful you can experience, but make sure you ask for the natural trains (called

Trains can be expensive, but since they are on time and provide such great scenery as you travel, they are worth it.
Express trains are not always the fastest connections – although the expression may be confusing. However, express trains are the most beautiful and amazing ways you can imagine.
Bernina Express – OMG! The Bernina Express is one of Switzerland’s most popular tourist destinations. This scenic, scenic train journey offers breathtaking views of the Swiss Alps as it travels from Chor to Trano, Italy.

Best Places To Visit In Switzerland In 2023
The Glacier Express is another surprise. This popular train journey takes you through the beautiful Swiss Alps from St. Moritz to Zermatt in 8 hours. There are so many Swiss train journeys that will leave you speechless – believe me, I’m a Swiss train expert and yet I’m always in awe when I look out the window.
Switzerland is a dream destination for any road trip enthusiast, with winding roads and stunning scenery. Driving through the country’s stunning mountains and lush valleys is an experience you won’t soon forget.
If you want to use the highways you will need to buy a product sticker. They cost about $40 for a year (unfortunately, you can’t get them for less than a year, but they’re usually included if you get a rental car).
