June Holiday Destinations Asia

Every year, more and more people choose to take their summer vacations a little earlier. Why? Well, you should ask them. Everyone is different, but the lure of less crowds, lower prices and slightly less scorching weather is obvious. In the Northern Hemisphere, June is hot but not quite ‘July and August’ hot, while temperatures in the South are on the more tolerable side of the ledger. We’ve rounded up a collection of the best places to travel in June, though there’s no such thing as a bad choice. How do the islands of Portugal, the seascape of Seattle and the beaches of Fiji sound? You don’t need to answer that…

Whether you come for the grunge pilgrimage, that gum wall or the incredible great outdoors, Seattle’s unique identity draws crowds from far and wide. The fun-loving side of the city is usually on full display in June as the artistic Fremont Solstice Parade stops traffic with naked bike rides and Seattle Pride paints the streets all the colors of the rainbow. Other highlights include spotting an orca in Puget Sound or sniffing the pricey-but-desirable Copper River salmon at Pike Place Market (only available from May to mid-June).

June is technically Fiji’s winter, but temperatures still hover in the mid-twenties (mid-seventies Fahrenheit) and this ‘cool’ weather makes for some seriously epic sunsets. The archipelago’s turquoise waters are particularly clear at this time of year, perfect for snorkeling and diving. The outer islands of Viti Levu are an excellent choice for a liveaboard trip for experienced divers, while the Mamanukas have calmer seas and beautiful coral reefs. Resorts are getting busier, but you’re still likely to find a better deal than you would in July or August.

It’s technically the rainy season on Malaysia’s west coast in June, but in Langkawi the rain is short-lived and sunshine often prevails. The main benefits of coming here during the shoulder season? Unspoiled attractions and bargain hotel stays. The popular Pantai Cenang Beach is much quieter in June, while the picturesque Tanjung Rhu (which is far from the tourist centers) is practically empty. Take the cable car to the Skybridge on a blue-sky day for unforgettable jungle views.

June In Asia: Weather And Event Guide

In the past, Prague’s cramped Old Town streets in summer would evoke whispers of ‘overtourism’. But the city is trying to reinvent itself – less pub crawls and horse-drawn carriages, more culture and food – and if you venture away from the main hubs, you’ll find there’s plenty to see beyond the Charles Bridge and (tourist-proofed) Lennon Wall (though they’re still are worth an early morning gander). June is not yet peak tourist season, but takes advantage of the beautiful weather and (in regular years) delicious festivals including Central Europe’s largest Ice Cream Fest and Microbrewery Bonanza.

To be honest, you won’t be able to avoid the crowds in Dalmatia in summer. Heck, you can even avoid them in the spring. If you want to visit Croatia’s coast in a calmer time, pack that windbreaker and head here in the winter. Still, Zadar and June are a gorgeous combination and the most exciting town in Dalmatia puts its best face forward and puckers up to visitors. Salutation to the Sun is one of the main attractions of the region, highlighted by the gorgeous sunset sun and crisp Bralog craft beer.

Zambia’s dry and bright conditions in June are ideal for spotting wildlife in the 3500 square mile South Luangwa National Park and a huge bonus; Mosquito populations decline as the landscape dries out. Walking safaris were first introduced here, allowing you to get up close to the flora of the area, spot the dusty prints of baboons, hyenas or leopards and see how majestic African elephants really are. If that’s not enough of an adrenaline hit, make a beeline for Victoria Falls, where you can bungee jump over the Zambezi.

The Bruins probably don’t have many more years of fighting left in them, but that doesn’t mean June will suddenly become a quiet time of year in the Liberty’s cradle. America’s Walking City is at its most walkable in the summer, and the multitude of street festivals attests to that, while concerts and other sporting events are constant throughout the month. There’s also the small matter of whale watching, which is never bad.

Thailand And Indonesia Gear Up For Return Of Chinese Tourists

June is one of the wettest months of Sri Lanka’s southwest monsoon season (April to September) but it’s a different story on the east coast. At Arugam Bay, the blazing sun and steady waves mean this month is made for surfing… or lazing around with a smoothie, if that’s more your style. Nearby Kumana National Park sees fewer visitors than its southern sister Yala, meaning you can spot leopards, elephants and crocodiles without the entourage of jeeps.

While the Azores aren’t already beautiful enough, in June, these green volcanic islands in the mid-Atlantic burst with color as wildflowers bloom in abundance. The island of Flores (meaning flowers) is a great place to spot them, but Parque Terra Nostra on the main island of SΓ£o Miguel is just as fascinating and a real treat for botanical boffins. You have a decent chance of spotting whales and dolphins in the wild, as a wide variety of cetacean species migrate through these waters.

June is a great time to travel to Copenhagen, arguably Europe’s most stylish city alive with street festivals and glittering blurs of class. A packed live music schedule in the intervening months means plenty of choice for gig-hunters, while the Photo Festival showcases some of the best photography from the other side of the lens. Copenhagen’s weather is most enjoyable in June, which is reason enough to schedule a visit around this time.

Time to get rough. Nowhere in the UK is as naturally ‘rugged’ as the Scottish Highlands, but the rugged terrain of these northern behemoths takes a break in June. The sun makes a brief appearance here in June, making it the perfect time to explore as much of the area as possible without pausing for shelter at every turn. The midges aren’t out in force yet, and eagle-eyed visitors may spot a dolphin or two frolicking in the water.

Despite current events, Central Asia is having a moment. Relaxation visa regulations mean the region is more accessible than ever and the unrivaled combination of rich history, stunning architecture and rugged landscapes is starting to draw the discerning crowd. From mid-June, Kyrgyzstan’s low-altitude hiking trails begin to thaw, the whitewater rafting season begins, and remote yurt camps welcome travelers looking for a digital detox. In Parvata Narin, make time for the Kyrgyz Shirdagi festival, a celebration of the ancient Kyrgyz art of felt carpet making.
