Travel Hotel Reviews – This was a weekend I had been looking forward to planning since last month – tldr; it was Bear’s birthday on this pie day and this is how we celebrated! πŸ™‚

The first was to head to Bukit Pasoh Road for lunch at TWGF, where they have great value for money for lunch which I’ve always had my eye on; and I wanted to let Bear try too!

There are two choice of options on the set menu – 2 course ($15++) or 3 course ($20++) with a variety of dishes to choose from. Best of all, their set lunches are available even on Saturday from 12pm to 3pm, which is quite rare.

There’s not much not to like about this dish – think chilled lettuce salad with sliced duck beast. Hmm!

Bear really enjoyed the Mushroom Capellini which came with a generous amount of assorted mushrooms, truffle oil, an onsen egg along with perfectly cooked capellini. I’m avoiding carbs as usual, but I couldn’t resist a few mouthfuls of this, it was good and comforting.

I ordered the USDA Sirloin to a medium rare. Not the best cut with a bit of tendons but it was cooked well and the accompanying sauce was great! Fries were really good, fluffy on the inside and almost crispy on the outside and tasted the BEST with the dipping sauce!

We shared a chamomile tea which made about 2.5 cups as our drink for this set. Free water is also inclusive here so yeah.

Lastly, we finished off with a one scoop ice cream dessert – a honey and NZ manuka figs flavor that was further elevated with a crispy base to finish off the meal nicely.

FYI, the total bill came to less than $60 for the above, which was worth it IMO with the quality of the food.

We left very satisfied and most importantly, Bear loved all of the food! Will definitely come back in the future (:

At the same time, many thanks to TWGF for my favorite bottle of wine – a sparkling red!

Next, we went to check out the place of stay I booked on Airbnb for Bear’s birthday – a relatively new boutique hotel called Hotel Soloha located in Keong Saik (walking distance from TWGF).

Interestingly, the reception/check-in desk is combined with the bar area and check-in was quite quick.

As you can see, the hotel’s decor is quite eccentric, with a tropical oasis/jungle theme and design vibes happening throughout.

Our room was located on level 2 and you will need to take the elevator (there are only 4 levels) and walk until you find the patio area.

Welcome to the biggest room option available at Hotel Soloha – the Suite with Outdoor Bath!) that I stumbled upon on Airbnb!

As a fair warning, size-wise — all rooms at Hotel Soloha are quite small, so don’t expect a lot of space.

If you don’t already know, you can take a picture of the whole room just by stopping in this corner, so there isn’t too much to take in.

One way or another, they managed to squeeze into a small work table in a corner near the door and the bathroom.

Yotel Orchard Staycation Review

The main table with JBL speakers, hot water bottle, two cups and spoons, a box of tissues, pen and paper, a magazine, complimentary coffee and tea bags, plus free Nissin noodles!

There is also no wardrobe, so this table doubles as an open concept wardrobe with hangers above to hang your clothes.

If you open the drawers below, you can find the hairdryer, flashlight, 2 bottles of mineral water and the safe.

Meanwhile, here is the queen size bed tucked into one corner of the room and I have nothing but praise for the quality of the mattress for a wonderful night’s sleep. It’s also very naked hahahahahha.

The only downside to the bed is that the edges can be a little sharp so if you have short legs. bed πŸ˜…

Anyway, there’s also a mini fridge under the bed that comes with 2 tiger beers and 2 canned drinks on the house! That’s where we put our bottle of wine from TWGF too πŸ™‚

Not forgetting this HUGE flat screen TV which unfortunately we didn’t get to try. But I loved the placement of the TV, which makes it great for movie nights (and the size too!).

In terms of the bathroom, you have two options – one, the indoor shower (use of shower wand AND/OR rain shower, not the best water pressure though) in the room along with the bathroom.

By the way, it’s beautifully designed and comes with the necessary toiletries – soap, shampoo, conditioner (no soap), fluffy towels, and the usual basic kits (toothbrush/vanity kit/comb/shaver set).

The other alternative is the outdoor bathtub which is the highlight of this room if you think about it.

My suggestion is to bring a bathing suit for modesty purposes because soaking in the tub openly (they tried putting a try etc for privacy) in your birthday suit is a bit dangerous. Also note no bath salts etc are provided so bring your own ya

Overall a very comfortable and cozy room which we enjoyed. There are some downsides too but still good and I’m glad Bear loved the room!

Ana All Nippon Airways: Flight, Lounge And Hotel Reviews

Yes, what we really like about this hotel is the 24/7 free flow of coffee and tea (just ask at the counter), along with a fridge full of complimentary canned drinks and snacks downstairs.

The vibes are definitely pretty chill here and they have 1 in-house restaurant called Takeshi Noodle Bar which doubles as the breakfast area, a chill out area (suitable for meetings) as well as the patio area where you can relax.

Unfortunately, they don’t offer facilities and amenities other than the above (i.e. no fitness room or pool), so take note if you decide to book them.

At the same time, parking isn’t the best here and they don’t offer free on-site parking like a boutique hotel, so your best course of action is to try and find a parking space nearby ($1.20/30 minutes if I remember- if well), or my top suggestion is to drive to the Gucco Tower in Tanjong Pagar because you can get the cheapest overnight parking for just $2.50/entrance on weekends!

Tripadvisor Fined For ‘false Reviews’

Note that it can be quite a long walk from Torre Gucco to Hotel Soloha (approximately 15-20 minutes on foot). However, you can use this time to wander around Tanjong Pagar/Duxton area.

In terms of food, you’ll definitely be spoiled for choice, but we ended up at Salmon Samurai for Bear’s birthday dinner anyway.

This is not my first visit to the Salmon Samurai located at 100am, but it was a first for the Bear. I just remember having good memories and good affordable mentaiko salmon with Veronica a few years ago and I’ve been craving it ever since.

And here’s what we had – essentially the same mentaiko salmon as our protein, but Bear had his with a base of yuzu rice, while I had mine with green salad topped with an onsen egg.

Finally, to end the night, we continued our walk around the area to mark my 10k steps needed for my weekly AIA Vitality challenge and I’m glad we did.

Alright, and that’s all for this super long post! Thanks always for reading and stay tuned for more #grizzlypandadates / #grizzlypandaadventures coming to you in the Sunday issue of weekends com!
