Tips From Travel Vloggers

Tips From Travel Vloggers – I firmly believe that everyone should keep a travel blog. I’m not talking about blogging to make money or blogging to ‘travel the world for free’ or any of the other hype you see on the internet. I blog about travel for the love of travel. For the love of seeing the world and sharing your stories with other people and keeping an online record of the places you’ve been and all the amazing things you’ve been lucky enough to see.

It doesn’t matter if you update your blog once a week, once a month or once a year; Having this online journal for your entire trip is the best! What I love about having a travel blog is being able to look back and re-read about my travels from the past 10 years. It brings back so many wonderful memories and (without sounding too bad) I want to go back and give the 21 year old a little hug and thank him for writing those posts. Yes, they are rare and there are many typos and errors but they help me remember something I would have otherwise forgotten.

I have a lot of people emailing me every week asking for startup advice. I bet most of you are reading this page right now because I sent you this link back in the email!

My first advice to you is to just start. Just set up a website and don’t worry about the name, design, fonts, logo and colors you use. All these things are just distractions. You won’t start learning how to blog until you start! I’m sure deep down you know this whole design thing is just a way to procrastinate. If you create interesting content, people will read it whether or not you have a nice logo. They don’t care what your blog is called, they care about what you say to start saying it.

It takes time to set everything up and that’s okay. I would say it takes about 12 months before you feel confident as a blogger and it takes 2 years to make any decent money blogging. Travel Travel Tips & Advice

Can you imagine a fashion designer who never looks at clothes made by others? Or a writer who has never read a book written by someone else. Or a chef who only ate at his restaurant?

Blogs inspire me and help me come up with new ideas for blog content. They also encourage me to travel, bake, shop, design, create and photograph. I read blogs in all different niches and try to bring all that influence back to The Hack.

Use blogs to inspire your writing but be careful not to copy or compare. Comparison is the thief of joy and all that…

You need passion to keep your blog interesting, inspiring and entertaining but you also need knowledge to keep your readers coming back.

Another reason to be interested is that blogging can be a daunting task. If it’s not something you really like

This is easier said than done but to stand out from the crowd you need to stand out from the crowd and be different and the easiest way to be different is to be yourself.

I had a recent podcast interview with Lucy that goes over what she said. We talked a lot about finding your niche as a blogger and how I think your personality is the best niche you can have. It sounds simple but it can be difficult because you really want to know who you are and what you stand for.

If you are not 100% sure of using your personality in your blog’s niche then the easiest way to get a unique voice for your blog is to combine two or three. Your first niche can be in travel so you can be creative and your second and third niche. Maybe travel and fashion, travel and camping, travel and city life, travel and pets, travel and books. The list could go on but I’m sure you get my point. Your second interest can help define your blog and make it unique.

In order to have a successful travel blog, you need to decide what success is for you. Do you want to have 100,000 readers per month, publish a book, improve your writing and photography, use your blog as a platform to find work or have an online diary that you can be proud of? And don’t be afraid to say you want your blog to earn you money! If that’s what you want write it down and keep working until you achieve your goals!

Whatever your reason for blogging, make sure you write it down somewhere so you can put together a plan to achieve your goals and know when you get there.

Blogging can take a lot of time and energy so why not work with friends, family or other bloggers to create either a collaborative blog or collaborative posts? A great example of an affiliate blog is Travelettes.

Some of my most popular posts, such as ‘Best Weekend Getaways’, are shared with my favorite blogs and I always acknowledge the articles that contribute to The Hack.

An interactive blog can be very personal but you have the benefit of more voices and more time, more resources and more ideas to do something bigger and better than you could do alone.

Most of the new bloggers I come across have amazing writing skills but are not so hot on the photography side of things and this is very important in blogging today. They say a picture speaks a thousand words so let your photos make the difference. The internet is a fast-paced place where people have a ridiculously short attention span and photos are a great way to grab people’s attention.

I would even go so far as to say that it is very important to be able to take a good photo if you want to be a blogger in 2019.

You don’t need to have a fancy DSLR camera to take great pictures, you just need a keen eye. Some of my favorite photos have been on my iPhone but if you’re serious about this you’ll want to upgrade to something better eventually. I use the Lumix G80 and love it.
